Paper Clay Art: Proudly Philippine Made Crafts You Can Enjoy With Your Child!

I discovered another new “art attack” activity to enjoy with my child!  I’ve always been a fan of Papemelroti products (For those who are curious about what Papemelroti products are, feel free to check out this link: http://www.papemelroti.com/) and I was so happy to have found yet another great product in my favorite store.  To read more about the Papemelroti story, click on this: http://www.papemelroti.com/what.htm

This specialty gift shop has branched out into several chains all across the country, with their beautiful decorative accessories and paper products that have made such an impact on so many Filipinos, with their trademark brown paper kraft materials.

I was able to buy a few new arts & crafts kits, this time the kind with something different to offer a child, incorporating paper and clay and a cardboard pattern and a few sticks…I chanced upon “Paper Clay Art,” a product of a company called JNBM Amazing Arts Phils, Inc.

At first glance, I thought the colors in the little plastic containers in the kit were paints, but when I looked closely, I noticed that the colors weren’t wet substances, but paper clay!  How interesting!

The objective of the activity is to cover the spaces between the black lines of the drawing or pattern/illustration included in the kit (like the photo of the girl, the angel, the house), making sure that the spaces are completely covered.  In doing so, the one doing the activity gets to form the photo.

I gathered that making use of the sticks in gathering the coloring paper clay from its container also helps in hand-eye coordination since the child who gets to do the activity will be making use of his fingers in holding the sticks carefully and making sure that the paper clay would stay within the black lines of the drawing.  Much like coloring with crayons (and staying within the lines), only the child would be using a different medium!  It takes some concentration in making sure that the spaces are neatly filled with the paper clay.

I find that the paper clay art also helped my child identify which colors would go well or would look best to be used for every part of the photo, like she knew that green would look good for the leaves on the angel’s hair, or white paper clay would be best for the clouds, and red would be good for the hearts on the angel’s dress, and so on.

The smaller kits are only Php 50.00 while the bigger sized-kits are Php 100.oo.  What a steal for a whole lot of fun!

Since these paper clay craft kits have sticks that have slightly sharp edges (that make it easy to gather some paper clay from the containers to be placed on the pictures), parental supervision is needed when completing the project.  I made sure that my child was just seated and focused and not running around with the sticks.

These JNBM Paper Clay Art Kits are just wonderful and handy for kids who want to get busy with their hands and a great hobby or activity idea for moms and dads who want to bond with their children over some art.

As we completed the project, we happily made up stories about the angel in the picture as well as the little girl in the illustration.  Drian exclaimed to her Daddy (who was happily watching us and taking photos), “Daddy! I’m helping Mama!”

I’m glad I bought more than just one craft kit so we can alternate this art activity kit with her usual fingerpainting and drawing using her water-based markers.  I also love how this Paper Clay art kit is non-toxic and safe for children.

I also bought some Papemelroti kraft paper that can be used in so many ways (scrapbooking, sketching, as wrapping paper, for paper crafts like origami, handmade puppets, coloring paper, embellishments, etc.) and I’m excited to explore all creative possibilities with my child.  Tomorrow is another day for fun and art!

Hope you’ll get to enjoy and try out this proudly Philippine-made product that gives a spin on the usual color and craft projects! :) Have fun with your child as you create pictures and get your hands busy!
