Books That Can Get You and Your Child To Enjoy Bible Stories More!

I was able to grab ahold of two interesting books at the resource center in Victory Christian Fellowship at the Fort, very useful books for homeschooling moms and for any parent who would like to use Bible stories in a creative, arts-and-crafts way.

I believe that teaching your child about Jesus and the people and stories in the Bible need not be boring.  These two books are packed with suggestions as to how you can use everyday materials around your home to illustrate points and emphasize lessons in the stories featured in the Bible.

Published by Group Pub Inc (August 1995), this book features creative arts & crafts ideas and activities that reinforce 20 Bible stories that elementary students and young children can relate to.  Each activity or craft in the book is clearly presented in this way:

  • Theme
  • Scripture Spotlight (the verses in the Bible are highlighted and emphasized)
  • Collect (the part where it enumerates the materials you’ll be needing for the activity or craft project)
  • Here’s What To Do (the directions or instructions to follow)
  • For Further Fun (there are bright suggestions and options on how to make the activity even more engaging)
The book is divided between the Old and New Testament, so there’s plenty that you can tackle while having a lot of creative fun!
Another book is
“Show And Tell Bible Stories” by Jennifer Holder is a hard-cover book packed with interesting insights about the Bible, and how you can use household items and other craft materials to illustrate and share the Word to your child.  An example would be holding up a flashlight in the darkness.  It could be a take-off point to the darkness before the light in the story of Creation, or it could also be a great way to describe how “Jesus is the Way, The Truth, and The Life.”
See for yourself how your creativity can be sharpened as you use these two very interesting books in teaching your children to embrace and love and understand the Word of God.  Nothing like starting them early and planting the seed of love for Jesus in their hearts through Scripture.
