Baby Genius Mozart & Friends Sleepytime DVD and CD: A Great Aid in Getting Your Child To Sleep

When I gave birth in 2008, my older brother Tony and sis-in-law Lizanne gave us a wonderful gift (among so many nice items for our baby) that we still use to this day.  It’s a DVD (with a bonus CD) of “Baby Genius Mozart and Friends Sleepytime.”

My daughter is turning three in two months, and there have been many baby things that we’ve been able to let go of (shared baby books, accessories and baby clothes with my sisters-in-law for my nieces and one of my bandmate’s sons, donated toys to charity, you get the picture) but this DVD definitely stayed with us.  We even bought a few copies to give away to dear friends whom we knew were expecting mothers and fathers.

I started playing the music from the CD since the first day.  It was such a handy and soothing tool in filling our bedroom with music from the very start.  It’s no secret that classical music, especially that of Mozart, has been hailed as a great enhancer of deep rest and rejuvenation, among its other benefits, like improved mental development in infants and children.

It was definitely a joy that I started immersing my ears in music (mostly classical and other soothing genres) even when I first found out I was pregnant.  My doctor advised me to listen to classical music at around the 5th or 6th month, since that’s when the baby in my womb would be able to hear sounds coming from outside, but I was happy to start early since I’ve always loved to listen to music, and it’s been my lifeblood for so many years.

So when the Baby Genius Mozart & Friends Sleepytime DVD would be playing (relaxing images of fields of flowers, cute puppies, cuddly kittens played out on a bed of Mozart), it signalled that it was time for bed, not just for my child, but for an exhausted but fulfilled new mom like me.  For my infant then, it was enough that she could hear the relaxing cadences of the music.

When Drian was already old enough to watch videos, we still played the DVD and no fail, it really did lull her to a restful sleep.

Part of me wants to purchase a few more copies that we can keep, since we know the DVD and CD are slowly getting worn out.  It’s really a fantastic item that I know will be having a space on our shelf and time on our DVD and CD players for a very, very long time.
