Another Memorable “Me-Time”: Regrouping at the Spa, Cuilliere, Sonja’s Cupcakes, and Fully Booked

Last Thursday, I took some time to steal away from home.

My simple equation for “me-time” that day? On top of the priority list were these four things: A Massage, A Mean Sandwich while reading my book, A Cupcake, and Something for my Husband.

Being away for a few hours felt wonderful, and it was a great way to regroup.  What a blessing to have a husband who allows me this luxury.  He took care of our little girl while I was away.  I decided to accomplish a few things while I was out of the house…and some of these errands didn’t really have anything to do with pampering myself, but I was happy to do them, just the same. I did make sure to feel completely relaxed during this time, though.

-Went on a short trip to the supermarket with my sis-in-law (what a joy to be able to chitchat and laugh about wife and mom stories!)

- Went to The Spa for an Aromatherapy Massage (my masseuse commented that I had tense back muscles, perhaps from moving around the house and being hunched over the computer many hours during the day).  The massage was soothing and just wonderful. I made sure I got my husband a gift certificate for the same service, since I know he also needs a break too.  Aromatherapy Massage in the Spa’s common room is P1000.00.  Not a bad gift idea for fellow Moms this Christmas!  I chose the Harmony oil that is just rejuvenating as it is relaxing.

I laughingly call this shot “Stairway to Heaven.” (the steps leading up to The Spa, one of my favorite places to be. hahaha!)

-Enjoyed a mouthwatering foie gras sandwich from Cuilliere in Serendra, paired with a cold mango shake, while reading my latest Nicholas Sparks novel, Safe Haven.  The goose liver in the sandwich is smothered with raspberry jam and butter, with a side salad of arugula with balsamic vinegar and sweet potato chips. Totally worth the price (P 1295.00)  I’d go back to Cuilliere for another one of these, but not too soon. You can only have too much of foie gras!  It was really a treat to just leisurely enjoy my meal.  That’s what “me-time” is all about—a chance to relax, retreat, and recharge.

- Had a cupcake (and picked up a few more to take home to my husband and child) at Sonja’s and it was sweet, having a date with myself in the pastry store that smelled lovely and yummy. I chose a PB& J (Concorde Grape Jelly-filled Chocolate Cupcake Iced with Peanut Butter Frosting).  Simple but simply couldn’t be beat, just for that day.  For just P 65.00, I had my fill of sweet cravings.

After these treats, I bought a graphic novel for my Rodrin at Fully Booked and started doing some early Christmas shopping.  It was a relatively simple “date with myself” but I so appreciated it, that I was bursting with excitement to see my hubby and daughter when it was time for me to go home.  When we arrived, I whipped up some chicken-pork adobo with hard-boiled eggs for dinner with nary a weary muscle.

Sometimes, it takes just a little peace and quiet and some alone time (having a massage, yummy sandwich, a good book, and a sweet treat will definitely NOT hurt. hahaha!) to be able to come bouncing back, ready to take on wife-and-mom duties again with a renewed and refreshed heart, mind, and body.

*Thank you dear Lord, for “me time,” for blessing me with a considerate, loving, and faithful husband, and a malambing daughter…and for wonderful massages, good food, great books, and delectable desserts! Till the next one! :)
